Sonoma Valley Jazz Recap 2016
For 30 Years, the Sonoma Valley Jazz Society has brought to our community a diverse program of local and nationally recognized jazz artists … from established icons and musicians from the younger generation.
The purpose of the Sonoma Valley Jazz Society is to enhance the appreciation of jazz as an American art form through live jazz performances and education in Sonoma Valley. We bring together our community by providing an opportunity to see, hear and meet top quality jazz artists. We help promote jazz by proving musician referrals and awarding youth scholarships and sponsoring clinics at local schools.
From January to June last year we presented Jazz at the Plaza Bistro every Friday night . Many local musicians performed including Kenny Washington, Noel Jewkes, Jeff Massanari along with visiting musicians saxophonist Mark Lewis from the Northwest and Arun Luthra from New York. Although this program has ended , we will pursue other opportunities for another venue in the local community.
In 2016 the Jazz in the Barn series presentations included Paula West, Sylvia Cuenca with Eddie Henderson, and Carlos Reyes.
Our annual Members & Sponsors Party was held on Sunday, November 13th - free to all members & sponsors and featuring Noel Jewkes. Thank You for your support!
Recently The Bryan Girard Trio performed for 5th Grade Beginning Band Members at Flowery Elementary School and we donated to their music program.
We are a small non-profit 501c3 organization solely funded by donations made by local citizens and business owners. The board is made up of a staff of volunteers (no paid positions).
It’s the dedication of our volunteers, dues-paying members ($40 yearly) and local Sonoma Valley businesses and individuals that make if all possible. Please join our community and Let’s make 2017 another year full of Bright Moments.
Happy New Year!
